History and Mission Statement
In the 1970’s, Prattsburg’s library service was provided by a mobile unit of Southern Tier Library System. Carol McConnell volunteered as the librarian and Hugh Fullerton paid the utility bills. A group of determined citizens obtained a temporary charter for the library from Albany to continue the library service. The Prattsburg Library was granted a provisional charter and became a member of the Southern Tier Library System in 1980. In the same time period, the building we are presently located in was purchased through generous contributions from library patrons. Providing library service to the people of Prattsburg was a long hard struggle by a group of determined people. Today we continue to flourish with grants, donations and public support.
Our mission is to provide resources and activities for our community that entertain, educate, engage, inform and inspire.
