Come visit the home of a true pioneer! Narcissa Prentiss was born in Prattsburgh on March 14, 1808. She attended Franklin Academy, and taught at Franklin and in Bath, NY. In 1836 she married Dr. Marcus Whitman and together they journeyed 3,000 miles, eventually settling in the Oregon country. Narcissa was one of the first two white women to cross the Rockies.

The Narcissa Prentiss House is open to visitors from 1-4 pm on weekends in July and August, and by appointment. At the house, you will become acquainted with one of this country’s most fascinating and tragic couples. The house contains artifacts, quilts, antique clothing, and a room dedicated to the Pratt family, founders of the town we call home.

The house is also available for special events and teas for small groups. The Narcissa Prentiss House is located at 7226 County Road 75 in the town of Prattsburgh. Those wishing to set up an appointment should contact Charlene Wilson at 607-522-3542 or Lynn Dinehart at 607-522-4737.
